Mr Ho Iat-seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, visited HKBU’s Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development (CDD) on 25 February to learn more about the Centre’s research projects and laboratory facilities, and discuss the sector with HKBU representatives.

Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice-President (Chinese Medicine Development) and Director of the CDD, and Professor Jia Wei, Associate Dean (International Collaboration) of Chinese Medicine at HKBU, together with Professor Wang Yitao, Special Advisor of the CDD and Director of the Macao Centre for Research and Development in Chinese Medicinereceived the government representatives from Macau and Hong Kong. During the visit, Professor Bian introduced the background of the Centre’s establishment, its R&D platforms, and its objectives to the guests, and he led them on a laboratory tour.

The CDD, which is located within the Hong Kong Science Park, was established with funding from the InnoHK scheme under the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government. The Centre’s vision is to translate traditional Chinese medicinal wisdom into pharmaceutical products with the best global partners using international standards. Its collaborators include the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine at the University of Macau, the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research at The University of Chicago, and the State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis at HKBU.
